What we’ve been doing

Our clubs phone banked and canvassed for Democrats in Loudon County special elections under the guidance of New Virginia Majority. We’ve also been building our relationship with Palestine ceasefire organizers and local leftist groups across the state. Tidewater club continued their impactful food program pictured below where they handed out a hot meal (homemade chili!) and critical items including hand warmers and toiletries. Pamphlets and good vibes also provided for free! We’ve also been processing lots of new applicants as fast as we can and are workshopping our 2025 educational program.

What we’ve been reading

We have several small groups meeting to discuss theory, history, and relevant readings. Our regular Study Group has focused on US leftist political movements, beginning with the Black Panther Party, and read Huey Newton’s On Anarchists and Individualists as Related to Revolutionary Struggle and the Black Liberation Movement as well as You Can Murder a Liberator but You Can’t Murder Liberation by Fred Hampton. The discussions centered around the importance of collective over individualist action, how folks in the US are indoctrinated into individualism, and what we can learn from both the failures and successes of the BPP. Another group has started to read The German Ideology by Engels and Marx, and will discuss soon! Individuals also are reading and reporting back to the collective on topics of particular interest including: Diarios de Ernesto Che Guevarra, Palestine A 4000 Year History, Losurdo’s Stalin: History and Critique.

What we’ve been writing

We’re incredibly proud of our comrade Elijah in NoVA who reported on both the utter failures of the Fairfax Board of Supervisors to keep us safe from murderous police, and on Youngkin’s anti-democracy policies and its effects on the election. We’re so glad to have him and his writing skills on the team. Also check out our CPUSA comrades’ writing on important national and international issues like South African elections, Cuba’s sovereignty, supporting holiday strikes, and more!

As we head into 2025, we are celebrating camaraderie, rising class consciousness, and all the great new comrades who have joined us this past year. There are many challenges facing us all in 2025 but VACPUSA is ready and able to tackle whatever comes our way, together. Join us in the fight for peace with dignity and socialism for all!
