What we’ve been doing
Comrades in Tidewater have been attending local town halls, protests, and events as they’re deciding how to best invest their time beyond the successful food program where they feed folks for free and exchange chit chat, toiletries, and solidarity. Our Broad Street Workers club in the Richmond area have continued their work with the Tenants Union and have been evaluating how to proceed with a community garden as a form of Dual Power and sustainable access to food. Our NoVA club helped RestonStrong successfully raise money at the Reston Association garage sale and continued supporting Fairfax for Palestine research efforts. We also join the Fairfax NAACP in their denunciation of the FCPS foot pursuit policy, which ignores both the Matrix Working Group and current advisory committee’s recommendations… which will allow FCPS to continue their over policing of our Black and brown neighbors. Meanwhile, Appalchia is growing fast as they welcomed a new member this month!
We also met our fundraising goal for the People’s World fund drive! People’s World is a left-leaning online magazine that reports on world-wide news and issues. In this day of billionaire-owned media, having a donation-driven news outlet is more important than ever. There’s never a bad time to donate, find the donation link here.
What we’ve been reading
Our clubs have been reading Pedagogy of the Oppressed, State and Revolution, and World Systems. Our education classes discussed Learning from the Masses, Socialist Administration, Introduction to Political Economy, Revolutionary Teamwork, and Learning from the Masses. We had great discussions on avoiding left- and right-deviations by keeping ourselves rooted in both Marxist-Leninist readings and making sure we are always serving, and made up of, workers. Here, we exchanged a lot of great examples of how folks remain rooted in their communities, and learned a lot from during- and post-class discussions of each other’s experiences. In our conversations on Revolutionary Teamwork, we also reflected on how to make sustainable organizations and how to support each other as we do experiments together to make a better, more just society. We also had a free period where we discussed the “swoletariat”: exchanging good practices to help us stay healthy, improve our day-to-day lives, and remain in the struggle long-term.
What we’ve been writing
Hands Off! Virginia summarizes the work of three of our clubs as we participated in the Hands Off! marches. Read more here from our comrades across the country. Our message is clear: CPUSA is on the side of the workers, and stands against the fascist right-wing billionaire agenda.
Also check out our CPUSA comrades’ writing on important national and international issues. If you prefer video over text, check out our party’s series every Friday: Good Morning, Revolution!
