What we’ve been doing
NoVA’s Dangerfield Newby Club has an ongoing campaign supporting houseless folks in our area, educating folks on why they may see more folks sleeping rough after “hypothermia” programs end April 1st each year, and demanding our Board of Supervisors improve shelter access in small but meaningful ways. We’ve also been working on strengthening our ties to the community and other like-minded groups in the hopes of building a stronger united front against fascism in NoVA. Further, we supported a yard sale for Reston Strong and continued reading, writing, and doing material work together.
Piedmont’s Broad Street Workers Club continued to build local ties and support local unions like United Campus Workers at UVA and the Richmond Tenants Union. We’re proud to also partner with the RVA community fridges and materially support feeding the food insecure in our area.
Tidewater has continued their successful food program and is working with DSA on a de-Flock Norfolk campaign including canvassing and getting folks to sign petitions.
All of our clubs have been gearing up for May Day. We support the “No Work. No School. No Shopping” pledge, and each club made a plan to celebrate in our own way, including rallies, community clean-ups, film screenings, and feeding the houseless. We’ll be reporting on those actions in the coming weeks and in our next monthly newsletter. We also welcomed several new comrades into the struggle and worked to raise funds for the People’s World Fund Drive!
