What we’ve been doing

Our district joined with many other comrades from CPUSA chapters all over the east coast and midwest to attend the People’s March on January 18th, featured in the photo for this month’s post (photo from @cpusa on twitter/X).

Piedmont’s Broad Street Workers Club has almost doubled in size this month alone, thanks largely to both the excellent organization and analysis work they began when the club was founded last year. This careful preparation prepared them to identify, join, and assist the Richmond Tenant’s Union in their important work to liberate workers from often deplorable conditions caused by the landlords who extort them. The Revolutionary Workers Club of Tidewater have continued their impactful food program, handing out critical items like toiletries along with a warm meal and revolutionary reading material. NoVA’s Dangerfield Newby Club has been working with local pro-Palestine organizations to increase awareness of harmful bills in Virginia’s legislature.

We’ve also all had club elections, updated our plans for the coming year, and prepared for our yearly District Congress, where we elect our district leadership, get together and discuss our successes and failures from the past year, update our plan for the year to come, and enjoy some camaraderie.

What we’ve been reading and learning

We launched our district-wide education curriculum this month with great success. We assessed members’ strengths and weaknesses and recommended particular classes for each person. Collectively at these meetings we’ve discussed the party program, cadre action, and club and district organizing. In February we’ll discuss political philosophy, the state, dialectical and historical materialism, and central planning.

We are beginning new reading groups, led by the clubs, and individual comrades have their own reading goals as well. Across our clubs, we have comrades reading and discussing Che’s Diarios, American Trade Unionism, and World Systems Analysis, with new plans being actively discussed!

We’ve also sent comrades to the excellent National Marxist School run by CPUSA leadership, and open to all!

What we’ve been writing

Comrade Aloysius from Richmond wrote about their struggle against slumlords https://vacpusa.org/2025/02/05/i-guess-im-an-activist-now-richmond-seniors-fight-deplorable-living-conditions-in-bacon-retirement-slums/ and Comrade Emily Jane wrote about their successful agitation against harmful, anti-organizing bills led by Fairfax4Palestine https://vacpusa.org/2025/01/29/we-will-not-look-away-pro-palestine-organizers-hit-the-streets-to-agitate-in-virginia-and-win/.

Also check out our CPUSA comrades’ writing on important national and international issues like attacks on immigrants, Black Lives Matter, AFL-CIO making moves, and the People’s March. If you prefer video over text, check out our party’s series every Friday: Good Morning Revolution!
